The Stellar Cloud: The F/FB 112 Specter – 01/29/2015

The Specter was a Terran Empire atmosphere and space capable fighter that also served as a fighter bomber. The Specter, developed by Republic Starsystems Corporation, first flew at New April Shipyards in 3145 under the hand of the renowned test pilot Gunther Reiss. He was so impressed with the Specter’s performance that he violated safety protocols and broke the warp barrier on its maiden flight.

Specters served in every branch of the Terran Empire Armed Forces and in every major ground and space campaign of the 33rd and 34th centuries. They continued to be employed in reserve components up to the collapse of the Terran Empire.

The craft was powered by two Collective Energy Corporation “Marker” 25,000 lb thrust engines that were fully convertible in flight from atmospheric to stellar operation. Warp was achieved with a Preston LH5 “Hooper” micro-warp drive.

The fighter models measured 17.7 meters long with a 9.5 meter wingspan and a “wheels up” height of 4.6 meters.

The fighter configurations were single pilot machines with two heavy plasma cannons on the nose and a pair of wing pylons for missiles and other modular weapons systems.

The fighter-bomber variants sported a center pylon under the fuselage for various payloads and could be equipped with a pair of hard-point pylons on the outer wings for additional strike weapons. Crew on the fighter-bombers included a pilot and a scanner intercept officer (SIO).

What does this mean for players in Takamo Universe?

Specters are buried somewhere in the archaeological record and are there to be rediscovered and built by enterprising player empires. With competent research and a little luck, they may yet fly again.

The Specter FB112H pictured above is a fighter-bomber variant with a heavy bomb load pylon under the central section of the fuselage. These models saw action as close air support aircraft during the Ice World campaigns of the 34th century.
