The Stellar Cloud: So What Will Takamo Universe Be Like? – 5/29/2014

So What Will Takamo Universe Be Like?

“Okay, I’ve seen videos of cool ships. I’ve heard the music and the narrations. I’ve read about the great backstory. All that is nice, but what is the game like? Am I piloting starship? Am I flying a space fighter? Do I lead a platoon of star troopers in battle? Just what will this game be like?”

To those of us who have played the original game TAKAMO, the question is surprising. We have been playing the game so long, and we are so immersed in the culture of the game that the question seems…odd. However, anyone new to Takamo understandably has a hard time wrapping their head around the complexity and the vast scope of it all.

TAKAMO UNIVERSE is a massive multiplayer online game. The game is built for an unlimited number of players that are housed in a single universe. The central galaxy is Estra. Four satellite galaxies comprise the Radnian Cluster, also known as the Five Galaxies. For more information about the Five Galaxies and their development, see our Stellar Cloud Blog “Progress” http://www.takamouniverse.com/the-stellar-cloud-progress-41014/.

Viewpoint
You are the emperor, the president, consul, supreme leader, the living god of your civilization. You will control your empire from that viewpoint. However, to help you, your civilization will provide leaders for you to help run your empire. This means that you will be controlling the game from a strategic point of view. You will not be piloting a single ship, but commanding entire fleets and star systems.

Leaders
Leaders are an essential part of the new game. They come in a variety of forms and skills. There are government leaders who oversee planets and installations. There are military leaders who command star ships, installations, and military units. There are civilian leaders who handle merchant star ships, and the list goes on. These leaders are under your command. They obey standing orders or missions that you give them. Leaders start with a variable skill set. They may be good or bad at particular tasks. They can be trained in present skills or new skills. They can be promoted and demoted. They can be encouraged, frightened, injured and killed. They continue working at their jobs even when you are not online. They are the agents of your success in the galaxy.

Examples of leaders are diplomats, spies, world leaders, star base commanders, merchant ship captains, admirals, generals, corporate leaders, academics, scientists, special operations officers, archaeologists, and explorers.

What does this mean for the new game?
Your empire will operate 24/7, with or without you. You can automate as much or as little of your empire as you desire. Your leaders will ensure that your orders are carried out to the best of their ability even while you are not online.

How can I learn more about the game itself?
The best way is to literally try the play by e-mail game, Takamo. Feel free to sign-up on the Original Game tab.
The other way is to read our Thursday blog, Stellar Cloud, which provides a peek into the development process every week.

Also, on Tuesdays we will talk about the free online strategy game Takamo on our blog, Threshold. Much of what is in Takamo, will be in the new game.
