The Stellar Cloud: Fields of Battle – 07/17/2014

Takamo Universe is a game of exploration, civilization building, and warfare. Combat will take a number of forms.

Here is a snapshot of a planetary invasion:

Ground battles on planets and moons will be fought with infantry and armor, aircraft and missiles. Jump ships will move into near orbit and drop orbital jump infantry divisions. Fighters will fly air superiority and ground attack missions. Armored Drop Ships will carry huge Meta Tanks the size of football fields to the surface. Troop Transports will land at invasion landing zones and disgorge whole infantry divisions.

Invasions of planets will take days if not weeks to complete. Defenders will fight for every inch of ground. Reinforcements from either side may prolong the campaign even further. Damage to the world in the fighting will be extensive. RU income from the planet will drop. Loss of life among the civilian population will be substantial. If the invaders are successful, the defenders will either evacuate, surrender or hide in the hills to fight as guerillas.

So what does this mean for players?

Planetary invasion in Takamo Universe is very different than in the original game. Gone are the one turn sweeps that wipe out all opposition. Invasions take place over an extended time, which means that there is time for each side to bring more starships, fighters and troops to the contested planet and star system. Allies may get involved. Things could get messy.
