Technologies that have changed the galaxy – 04/03/2015

Many new technologies are emerging from the minds of the players in Takamo. Here is a great example from the mind of James MacKinlay.

STARCOM Relay Stations

With the Terran expansion across the galaxy the borders of Terran space kept expanding. Wilfred Hachey, founder of STAR Communications Ltd. (or more commonly referred to as STARCOM) saw an economic opportunity. When the Terran borders outgrew the frontier outposts and listening posts STAR Communications purchased those facilities at government auction. Transforming these posts into relay stations STAR Communications set up the largest civilian network of communications in in the Terran Empire.

With the Terran collapse STARCOM was one of the few companies to survive, bouncing messages to far flung worlds, trade orders, entertainment and diplomatic traffic. With the near monopoly among the former Terran colonies STARCOM profits grew and were re-invested back into new relay stations, always with the same goal the founder Wilfred Hachey had originally spouted. “Redundancy is everything”.

Now STARCOM relay stations can be found all across known space, whether they be in orbit around a planet, a lone structure on an asteroid belt, or on the top floor of a bustling city block. Relay stations are almost always manned by only one technician who lives on site. The systems are redundant so just about anything except a catastrophic failure will not affect the stations ability to transmit and receive data. Because of the sensitivity of some of the information being transmitted every STARCOM station is linked with the local police force or navy by a trouble button.

What does this mean for Takamo Universe players?

Some of the technologies that you will use in the game will be from the very people who play the game, so get your creative cap on and join us!
