The Rutak Empire was as vast and, in some ways, just as aggressive as the Naplian Empire. Rutak forces had fought a number of minor wars with Naplia and its allies, but these confrontations were, with the exception of the Rutak-Svenisch War, merely frontier skirmishes to assert trade rights or minor border claims. The Rutak carefully avoided direct involvement in the Bonate’s war of conquest against the Grand Alliance until the Naplin general retreat in 3245. Rutak forces began to occupy large sections of the Sequit Spiral Arm beginning in 3247. By 3251, they were pushing deep into Former allied territories and driving out or isolating the Svenisch and Denic garrisons.
Advance elements of Admiral Sottien’s battle group had been operating among the outer starsystems of the Naplian Imperial holdings in the Farstrake Nebula when the cybernetic revolt began. They were the first to learn of the cyber betrayal. Three squadrons of the 215th Fleet were hailed and then attacked during the siege of the Naplian Regional Governor’s world in the Verianol starsystem. The Rutak lifted the siege and withdrew to deep space with the loss of four battlecruisers. Naplian officials later reported that the Verianol system world were subsequently harvested by a Geddan task force.
Five generations of Rutak emperors held sway over an ever diminishing territory as the cybernetic campaign gained momentum. The Rutak Imperial Navy fought thousands of small skirmishes and over three hundred major engagements against the cyber hordes, but in the end they succumbed to the mechanical menace.
