We saw early on in the Kickstarter campaign that we had not started our effort to get the word out soon enough to ensure that we would reach our goal. At the very end of the Kickstarter effort we chose to cancel it and switch our fund raising efforts to our own web page. We will revisit the Kickstarter effort in a few months. In the mean time, we need your help in getting the word out that Takamo and Takamo Universe are gearing up!

We’ve been busy since the Kickstarter campaign. New ship frames, Fighter models and database work. Even more interesting is our decision to reintroduce the original Takamo as a free online turn based game that is intended to give the new generation of gamers an idea of what the original game was all about. So stay tuned if you are interested in getting back into the old game as well.

Digital Wallpaper: We added a $1 Backer level that provides a Takamo Universe digital wallpaper as a thank you for backing the project. We will honor that for all backers, including those who pledged prior to this update.

PBM Veterans: We have also added a PBM Veteran Backer level. Just tell us which game you played and you will be able to get into the beta at the $15 pledge level.

Colony Moon Incentive: Whenever a backer recruits a new backer, both get a colony moon added to their starting beta position. The more recruits, the more moons you get.

New Forums: We are adding a ship design forum and other forums to the Takamo Universe web site.

New Videos of in game play will be out early in the week.

All player races in Takamo Universe are the remnants of the ancient human empires of the Five Galaxies. What they become through technology advances and their exploration and game evolution is up to them.

Ship design technology is based in ancient tech from the ancient civilizations (the old Takamo empires). Ship hull frames are the shell or outside of the ship, it’s look, size and number of hull positions (slots to put your equipment and crew. For example a ship hull frame might have ten slots but what you put in them – number of engines, guns, etc. is your choice. So the hull frame is the shell that you choose. The interior components of the frame are your design. The finished design can be saved as a hull class for your shipyards to build. Special hull frames will be a number of special hulls not found in the standard inventory of hull frames as you start your empire. Those will be available to qualified backers.

Resources, time and current technology will all be limiting factors in the game but your empire will tend to grow at a satisfying clip. Over many the many years of operating the original game we saw what rates of growth were too slow and frustrating and the rates that made advances cheap and without meaning. Balance will be a key issue for game design and play.

Technology advances give new equipment and abilities which widen the scope of play. Access to the Beta, gives up to a year of game play and empire development before the rest of the gaming public gets on board. Both of these opportunities should be of significant interest to savvy gamers.

Tech advances are not at all similar to the old game. Tech direction is determined by the empire. You will follow paths that give you access to new weapons or installations or hull frames. It is all up to you. How long it takes to get a certain tech depends entirely on what path you take and what you are trying to accomplish. There are no tech levels.

The subscription rate hasn’t been determined yet but it is safe to say that it will be less than $10.

Now is the time to get a leg up. Tech advances are a key feature of the rewards offered on Kickstarter. If you get in on the Beta, your empire will continue on into the commercial release. You’ll be one of the older civilizations in the new epoch of the Five Galaxies.
