    Interstellar trade
Once your trade networks link with another empire and your diplomats have signed trade agreements, you’ll be able to move your trade vessels along the established trade routes of the other empire. The more empires you link by trade, the more your empire will prosper.

It’s really exciting to see so many old players excited about the new Takamo! I’m the guy writing the music for the game, and it’s a lot of fun reading and learning about what you did with the previous game. R. Ritnour gave me some of the articles from the old Threshold magazine =)

We are in the final stages of phase one of website development. This post is intended as a preliminary test of the forum for old Takamo players. If there are any old players out there lurking, you are welcome to chime in. The architecture of Takamo Universe will take much from the old game. After all, it successfully ran for twenty years and much of the game design problems and programming glitches were smoothed out over two decades of processing. So, much of what you initially see in terms of game design will have a familiar feel. In fact, we are basing some of the initial ship models and other visual elements on old Takamo pen and ink pieces. However, there is much more to the new game than the old Takamo foundation.

The game will no longer be turn based. All game assets, be they fleets or planets, will have leaders handling those assets 24/7. You’ll give your leaders orders and they will commence carrying out those orders as you direct. That means when you order a fleet to head for a distant star system, the fleet commander makes his preparations and then jumps into hyperspace for the trip to the new destination. You the go about giving orders to your other minions while the fleet is in transit. The hyperspace trip is likely to take some time. Depending on how far it has to go, it may jump out of hyperspace while you are still online doing other emperor of the universe stuff or it may arrive long after you have logged off and gone to work. If you are online, you’ll get an immediate alert. If you are offline, you will receive an alert by the method you have in your game settings, be it e-mail, smart phone alerts, a rock through your window. The fleet will then proceed to execute whatever orders you have given it such as scan the system, launch a fighter strike, send a message, etc. If an enemy fleet is present, combat ensues. You won’t have to control the battle. In fact, you don’t have that option. The leader of the fleet does that. You will get to see what happens if you are online or you will get to see it in an animated report of the battle once you next come online.

There’s a lot more to tell. Like I said, if you are an old Takamo player lurking out there. Please join in. We will be talking about the things we liked about the old game, the stuff we didn’t, and how the new game will be similar or different. We’ll also spend plenty of time reminiscing and perhaps gaining insight on what empires were up to in the galaxies and why. It is certain that the new game will have great depth and will be a visual and auditory treat.

Hope to hear from you soon!
