The Stellar Cloud: Fort Building – 10/09/2014

Over the past few weeks I have been talking about the various ground units you will be able to build in Takamo Universe. You may be thinking (or hoping) that I am done talking about that. Well, I’m not.

Ground units are made up of various sub units like infantry, armor, mechs and artillery. However, there are other units on the ground that are made up of sub units. Case in point: forts. Fortifications in Takamo Universe are able to hold a number of sub units. In the new game you will be able to tailor your forts to specific missions. They could be strictly ground defense positions that house infantry and other ground units or they could be filled with anti-starship missiles or rail guns able to knock big things out of orbit and then depress their guns to deal with enemy armored vehicles and metatanks. Nasty things those forts.

The DONAR Heavy Artillery railgun is an example of the awesome weapons available for fortress duty. This weapon is a heavy anti-starship rail gun developed by SPEER WAFFENSCHMEIDEN, a company with Terran roots in ancient earth. The company grew as the old earth nation states transitioned to the Confederation of Earth States (aka the Nation States Confederation) to the Terran Confederation and ultimately to the Terran Republic. Corporation assets could be found from Terra out as far as the Inner Rim empires.

Different versions in various sizes are available. The model pictured stands roughly 15 meters tall. It has a separate generator, but the unit itself stores sufficient energy to operate for a short period of time or to start firing even before the support systems are set up. The weapon fires tungsten rod munitions, which can strike targets in high orbit with devastating result. Smaller towed versions are able to depress to engage ground targets, such as armored vehicles and metatanks.

The DONAR Heavy Artillery gun is the creation of Joris Wegner, one of the many artists working to make Takamo Universe come to life. You can view his art works at http://m-vitzh.deviantart.com/
